Is my yellow delicious semi-dwarf dead?

Asked April 17, 2013, 4:36 PM EDT

My McIntosh semi-dwarf apple trees are budding out but I see no signs of life from my yellow delicious tree. Is the yellow delicious on a later schedule or has it died overwinter? The yellow delicious is one year old.

McIntosh blooms earlier than Golden Delicious, but I expect that your Golden Delicious should have budded out by now. Take a knife and cut through the bark on your Golden Delicious to see if it is still green and alive beneath the bark.

You may want to make a cut in the McIntosh tree to make a comparison.
