Hello, and thank you for using the Ask an Expert System.
The best way to know how to prepare your soil is to get a soil test. Soil tests are inexpensive alternatives to guessing how much fertilizer to buy and apply. Tests are available form the Soils Lab at Penn State University. You can purchase a kit for preparing and mailing a sample at your local Penn State Extension Office. You can find information on that office at http://extension.psu.edu/jefferson
