We have 2 mature grape vines which we would like to transplant to a sunnier area. We have a backhoe with which to lift them. Is this a possibility, or are we looking at killing the vines?

From Ron Smith, Horticulturist, NDSU Extension Service I learned the following. If this is a grapevine with any age to it, I can almost guarantee you that it will regrow with a vengeance after you cut it back. This whole operation should take place while the vine is still dormant, not the middle of the growing season when it is in full leaf.

The bigger the root ball you can transplant, the better, since there will be more roots in the larger ball.
