Do you have a recommendation for the type of blueberry that does well in this county? Also, if you have a recommendation, are suppliers easy to find? I am only interested in a few plants. I am on the eastern side of the Scioto River, between Sciotoville and Minford. Thank you.

Hello

We have been conducting field research trials on blueberry for the past 15 years. We have had good luck with several but Bluecrop has been a good yielder with fairly decent fruit size and it is in the early to mid season harvest window and has never really been hurt bad from spring frosts and freezes. If you would want to look at how other varieites did at our Piketon research farm visit our web site http://southcenters.osu.edu/horticulture/results/1999-results/ this has the 1999 report on it but just lcick on the years for other results.

There are many plant suppliers for blueberries and you want to get them from a reputable source that has disease free stock. Local farmers around these parts get plants from De Grandchamps out of Michigan http://degrandchamps.com/ they are very helpful folks,

Just make sure that your soil is acid enoughf for blueberries they like a ph of 4.5 to 5.5 anything above that they do not grow well. we can send your soil office for testing if you would like the lab cost is $18, just drop it off at the Scioto County extension office in the basement of the COurthuse from 8 to 4:30 Moday through Friday.

Hope this helps call or email if you have more questions.
