Garden Fly Control

Asked April 4, 2013, 6:08 PM EDT

We just planted our Fall backyard garden and have encountered many types of flies. Afraid they may be fruit and vegetable destroyers. What can we use for control?

General, wide spread spraying of the garden is not an appropriate approach to pest control and can have unintended, detrimental effects. If they are truly flies they are most likely not a pest of any of your fruits or vegetables. I suggest you capture some of the insects you are concerned about and drop them by or mail them to our office at the address below. We can try to identify them or at least determine if they are a pest of the garden. Once you know the identity of a pest insect we can prescribe a way to control it based on the crop that it is affecting.
