Mason Bees in Wyoming

Asked March 29, 2013, 6:50 PM EDT

I have some plans for a mason bee "house" that I would like to try to attract mason bees to my garden for pollination. My question is, are mason bees found in Wyoming, and what is the best time to put my "house" up to attract them?

Sorry for the delay in response. We are still working out the kinks in the system. In answer to your question. Yes we do have mason bee species in Wyoming. They are in the genus Osmia. This website has a map that show the known distribution of Osmia species in the northern hemisphere. http://eol.org/pages/2753366/maps

I would go ahead and put your bee house up now as there will soon be wild plants and weeds blooming and the pollinators will start to get active. Here is another good source of information on insects like the mason bees run out of Iowa State University.
