Hello. I purchased a home on a couple of acres in Auglaize County about 2 years ago. On the property are 2 apple trees, 2 pear trees and 1 peach tree. All of the trees have produced well so far but the fruit has been so infested with bugs/worms that very little of of it is usable. I'm trying to find out what product(s) I should use to help with the insect problem and information on when, how, and how much to apply. I would also like additional information on care such as what type of fertilizer to use, how much and when as well as pruning tips. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

For the control of diseases in fruit trees, Ohio State has a great reference called "Diseases of Tree Fruits in the East. You can purchase it at the website: http://estore.osu-extension.org/index.cfm In the search box, enter "diseases of fruit". On the same screen you will then see an almost as good reference: "Controlling Diseases and Insects in Home Fruit Plantings". Those references will help you with insect and fungus problems. To know about things to add to the soil, don't add anything without a soil test. The testing company will tell you what, if anything, needs to be added. See your county Extension Office for soil testing locations in your area. For pruning help, go to: http://ohioline.osu.edu/search.php In the search box, type "pruning" to see a list of publications for all kinds of fruits. Enjoy your orchard.
