Bines per hop plant?

Asked March 25, 2013, 3:37 PM EDT

We are planting new hops plants. I see some plants with a single bine, some with two bines. Is it possible to have 4 bines from a single crown? Or is this asking too much of a single root system? We do plan to run water to each plant with fertilizer within the watering system. Thanks for your advice ~

Standard is 2 per plant by year 2 or 3. In the first and second year maybe just one or two depending upon how they look. But in years 3-4 you could try more. We haven't done that yet in our research plot, but maybe will this year just to see if it works.
