Composting Pine Needles

Asked March 24, 2013, 7:14 PM EDT

Does anyone know about how well it works to chip or shred pine needles to promote composting? I dont want to buy a chipper/shredder for this purpose and then find out it doesnt work.

As to chipping and shredding, never heard of them being chipped or shredded.

Pine needles CAN be composted but they take along time as they are mainly cellulose and lignins.

Most people add small amounts to their compsot piles during the year and they slowly are composted.
