I have a pond that is about 1/2 acre. To control the filamentous algae, I add containers of baley straw. The place I used to buy Barley straw from does not have it this year. Can someone please let me know where I can purchase it? Thank you John

Greetings:

Unfortunately, I do not know who in Stark Co. sells barley straw, and I'm also always reluctant to promote any one business entity over any other. The Stark Co. extension office will probably have better familiarity with whomever in the county sells such supplies: http://stark.osu.edu/. The Stark Co. Soil and Water Conservation District office could also probably help: http://www.starkswcd.org/.

I feel obliged to add that there isn't really consistent evidence that barley straw is effective (see this fact sheet, e.g.: http://ohioline.osu.edu/a-fact/pdf/0012.pdf). For alternative management methods, consider this: http://ohioline.osu.edu/a-fact/pdf/A_3_09.pdf.

Good luck,
Eugene
