I want to plant some sweet potatoes in my garden this year. I have read where I can grow my own slips, my question is, what is a certifiable sweet potato, where can I purchase these potatoes to start my own slips?
Thankyou, LuAnn VonHatten

Yes, Ms. VonHatten,
Certified is a label applied to sweet potato stock that certified to be free from any of a number of serious diseases that can afflict Sweet potatoes. You can grow your own slips from disease free stock and this site is a good one to explain how to do it. http://urbanext.illinois.edu/veggies/sweetpotato.cfm

this site has a great selection of sweet potato varieties some of which might be suitable for your area. http://www.southernexposure.com/sweet-potatoes-c-229.html

Good luck,
