Best time to graft apple trees?

Asked January 17, 2013, 7:48 PM EST

What is the best date to graft apples? I just received my rootstock and will be potting them now. Thanks.

The best time to graft is March 15th-ish. Save some scion wood by leaving it on the tree. scion wood should be pencil width. if you have to collect the scion wood, place in a plastic bag with moist sawdust and place on the north side of a building to keep it form freezing and cool.
