breed of cat

Asked December 25, 2012, 11:53 PM EST

On December 24, 2012, we found a cat inside our house. She seems different because she has two-color eyes (one green, one blue). What kind of cat is this?

It seems as if you have an "odd-eyed" cat. The scientific name for this is heterochromia iridis, and this can occur in other animals as well as humans. These cats are usually white, or at least have white spotting on their bodies. Because of the genetics of white fur and its influence on eye color, practically any breed (or mix) can be an odd-eyed cat. These cats are highly valued in certain breeds, such as Turkish Vans. Although the odd eye colors are striking, they don't give us much information about the breed of your cat. Nevertheless, you have a beautiful new companion!
