The best way to grow oranges in Tyler, TX would be to grow them in a container and move the container indoors when the weather falls below 32 degrees F. This would be for all oranges except for Satsuma (mandarin type) which some people considered an orange. These Satsumas can be planted outdoors in the soil and can survive temperatures as low as 12 degrees F. However, some foliage damage can occur on these trees if temperatures stay below 23 degrees F for a prolonged period. So if you are familiar with the typical temperatures there then these are your only two options.
