Name this bush #946399

Asked October 02, 2026, 9:49 PM EDT

I planted 10 of these and lost the name of the bush. I’d like to know when they should be pruned. Thank you!

Ramsey County Minnesota

Expert Response

The plant is an Amur maple (Acer ginnala) sometimes considered a variant of (Acer tataricum), Tatarian maple.  The leaves shown in the photos appear to have characteristics of both.

It's a large shrub or small tree.  This maple is invasive, so it's considered a noxious weed in the "specially regulated" category.

Late winter or early spring is the best time to prune.  Otherwise wait until after the leaves are fully developed.
