Sand cherry tree-possible gummosis? #944072

I have a sand cherry and it looks like it may have gummosis. I’m hoping you can confirm or clarify what it is based on photos. Whatever it is do I need to be concerned about the soil and nearby plants? It looks like some of the sap dripped on the peony near it and left a hole in the leaf. In addition, what is the best way to dispose the removed tree? Looking for any help to keep the other plants and soil healthy. Thank you!

This appears to be Gummosis,
Here’s the good news first: gummosis in a sand cherry does not contaminate soil or harm nearby plants. Whatever is happening to your sand cherry is tree‑specific, not something that spreads through the soil to peonies, fruit trees, or ornamentals. The sap drip that damaged your peony leaf is mechanical/chemical injury from sticky resin, not a sign of infection. Cherry sap can be acidic and can “burn” soft herbaceous leaves, but it does not transmit disease.
