Jumping worms!!!! #941593

Asked August 05, 2026, 10:37 AM EDT

Hi! I am dreading typing this but I think we may have jumping worms. My neighbor thinks he has them too. Is there a way to get our soil tested / bring in a specimen if we find one in order to confirm the infestation? Also, what do I do to prevent them from spreading / eradicate them entirely? Thank you, ~Jessica

Expert Response

It is very upsetting to all gardeners to discover jumping worms! There is research on going but at this time there is nothing you can do to eradicate them. To prevent spreading them, don't move any plants, soil, mulch or compost from your beds. Here is a link to more information, including how to identify them: https://extension.umn.edu/invasive-species/jumping-worms
