Front yard disaster #928226

Asked April 13, 2026, 11:22 AM EDT

I have 2 large brown areas in the front yard that I've been dealing with for the last few years to no avail. As the snow melted this year a new problem revealed itself. Trails everywhere. Voles? Moles? Maybe feeding on the possible grubs that are destroying my grass? I tried to include photos. Not sure if they went through.

Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, your pictures didn’t come through. Be sure that they are in either a JPEG or PNG format.  At the bottom left of the message box is a link for you to click by which to send us pictures.

For the brown areas that you have seen in past years, were these areas green early (late May, early June) in the season and then turned brown in late July and early August?  If so, this would be consistent with a fungal infection. However I would feel uncomfortable in suggesting that you apply a chemical fungicide in the absence of pictures.

Have you seen any crows digging in your yard and tearing things up?  If so, this would suggest that you have root-eating grubs in your turf.

Hopefully you will be able to send us some pictures.

Thanks for consulting us.
