Help with identification of suspected invasive plant #922598

Asked December 02, 2025, 1:29 PM EST

I would like to identify the plant / plants in the attached pictures. These plants are growing aggressively in large areas of the land comprising our house lot in Norwich, CT. I am particularly interested in eliminating invasive species. I'm finding these plants growing as trailing vines at soil level as well as climbing vines.

Thank you,
Elaine

Hi Elaine,

It is difficult to tell identifying features from these images. These are very young leaves on these vines. If you are able to trace the vines back to some of the older growth, you may be able to see more identifying features like fruiting structures/seed capsules or even larger, more defined leaves that may help with identification. They may also be easier to identify when leafed out fully in the growing season. If you can pull the roots, the color of them may also help us identify further. We suspect it could be Euonymus fortunei, but cannot say for sure.

This fact sheet will give general tips on how to control weedy vines. If we are able to help you identify further, we may be able to provide more in-depth recommendations.

Please bring a sample to your closest extension office or email us more detailed images at <personal data hidden> and we may be able to narrow this down more confidently.
