However, a certified arborist should be able to tell you what exactly is happening to your trees. One can be found locally for you by going to the website TreesAreGood.org. That individual should, for a fee, be able to tell you what exactly is happening to your tree.
I would also suggest an arborist to identify the prognosis for your grandson's maple tree as well.
