I'm interested in planting a native red mulberry in front of a friend's house next spring for both shade and fruit. Where, and how may I best acquire one. Seeds seem questionable, and quick google searches are full of non-native black and long mulberries. In addition there is the potential issue of mono-sex trees.
So should I go with a cutting from a known local specimen, despite my desire to avoid long term clonal genetic diversity issues, or is there a good source for seed, or bare root options, that are known to be untainted with white or black mulberry genetic contamination.

I appreciate your desire to grow a native red mulberry tree but UMN Extension has no list of suppliers for tree stock or seeds. Sorry!
