Consider other plantings like a mix of groundcovers or just mulch under and around any areas of shade trees that are mature enough to have significant root growth within and shade over the areas of lawn near them. Shade trees and lawns don't cohabitate well and the tree will win the competition for resources, causing the lawn to become sparse over time, even if overseeded yearly. If you do need to sow grass seed in a more shaded area, look for a seed blend formulated for shadier areas, which will probably have a significant portion of fine fescue in it.
For a strongly sloped area, try to convert it to non-lawn as you are able (it can be done in stages as labor and budget allow), since mowing it and even applying seed, fertilizer, and lime may be difficult without having some of that erode before it germinates or soaks into the soil.
