I have been growing dahlias for the better part of a decade, but I cannot say that I know what I am doing. Every year at least one of them does not thrive, but I have no idea what I do wrong. I water them, I cut off dead leaves and flowers. I water them and occasionally give them some organic plant food. Every year it seems that one of the shorter dahlia plants gets wilted looking but does not need more water and it also has plenty of holes to release overfill. I have 2 of these this year.
The third one was thriving until the wind knocked it down one night. Now it does not look healthy.
What can I do for these sick plants? I would be grateful for some suggestions. Thank you.

I need a closeup of the top and bottom of a ill but not dead leaf.
Dahlias are a wood land plant. They need filtered sun and protection from extreme heat.
Are the drain holes in the pot covered with loose pieces of pottery? This helps ensure that soil and roots do not plug them. The pot should be kept above the drain pan.
