My tree and deck #881114

Asked August 12, 2024, 9:53 AM EDT

Hi. I have a tree with lots of green spots all over it. I looks like a fungus maybe? The "fungus" has spread to my deck, outdoor furniture, stone steps. What should I do?

Expert Response

The good news is that you don't need to do anything.
The green patches that you are seeing are an interesting life form called Lichens, that are completely harmless to your tree and are actually a sign of good air quality.
You can learn more about them here:

They do tend to grow on still or slow-growing surfaces but they don't harm.
Many think they are lovely but you can remove them on your deck etc. if you feel the need to.
