Apple tree #880960

Asked August 10, 2024, 5:21 PM EDT

I have a zester apple tree. It produces tons of apples. The tree tends not to grow solidly in the ground. Is there something I can do to this tree that will help it firm up. The last few years I’ve had a tie to other trees and my house so that it won’t tip over. Thanks Scott Fisher

Expert Response

The tree needs extensive pruning this winter/early spring.  Because of the current shape you may want to have this done by a arborist.
Proper staking for a tree this size may need a two or three stake system.  The tree needs to be able to move with the wind in order to grow stable roots.   See the websites for more details.
