Did you take these pictures? It is considered endangered in the United States and is the focus of conservation efforts by the Minnesota Zoo. According to Xerces Society, this butterfly is not native to only Minnesota but was once found in the upper Midwest area. It is now found in Minnesota into the Dakotas.
