Looking for short grass #880886

Hello! I am looking for a short ‘orchard’ grass that is drought tolerant and does not grow very tall. The application site is east-sloping 1/2acre in Hood River Valley, at 1000’elevation, zone 6b, mostly sun to shade (from a few pine trees). I will be adding fruit trees and blueberry bushes site at a later date.
I remember reading an OSU extension article about a ‘new’ hybrid, 6” tall grass for orchards, but have not been able to locate any info now that I’m looking for it. Please help!!
Thank you
Hood River County Oregon

I have not found a specific variety yet- or the referenced article- but fine fescues, and perennial ryegrass blends do well in partial shade situations, timothy grass can also do well, but may require more irrigation. All grasses will compete to an extent with tree or berry crops, but can b managed with chemicals or by tillage prior to planting immediately around the trees or bushes. I will keep looking for that article and let you know if we find it.
