Netting underneath new sod #880854

Hello: we recently had new sod installed. Given the extreme heat this summer, large portions of the lawn have died and will need to be aerated and seeded. Not sure this is possible given the nylon mesh. Is nylon mesh standard practice for new sod?

Expert Response
Nylon mesh might be used if the sod installed was pure tall fescue. Sod is often sown with predominantly tall fescue and a small percentage of Kentucky bluegrass, whose more spreading root system habit helps to "knit" the sod together. Otherwise, it might fall apart during harvesting, transportation, and installation. It could be that the original sod with mesh was tall fescue only.
