what to do about blackening red oak leaves #880819
Asked August 09, 2024, 11:26 AM EDT
For 1-2 months the brown to black change on the edges and tips of leaves has led to curling and leaf loss in spotty areas throughout the canopy. Early on the change seems to extend from edge to central vein and sometimes respects a secondary vein. Wondering about the cause and any treatment options if indicated. Thank you!

I cannot diagnose your tree based on photos. However, your tree is showing some classic symptoms of oak wilt:

Red oaks, in particular, are at great risk. You should have a certified arborist assess your tree as soon as possible:

Thanks for your advice Dennis. I'll request an arborist stop by.
