Latham Raspberries #880792

Asked August 09, 2024, 6:13 AM EDT

Can I prune my Latham raspberry canes now, in August? They are growing out of control and hanging over my driveway. If I do prune, how much? Both floricanes and primocanes? Can I trim back the long leggy canes?

Expert Response

Hi,

Pruning floricane raspberries like Latham is usually done in the fall when the plants are dormant. The tallest canes should be the canes that already bore fruit this year and won't bear fruit next year.

Cut them back on a dry day. See the information here:

These raspberries are tall by nature and next year you may want to stake them to prevent flopping. Good luck!
