Design assistance for Michigan native gardens #880788

Asked August 08, 2024, 11:13 PM EDT

We have recently been notified that a large 29 acre un-developed piece of land across the street is going to be cleared for a GM parking lot. I have always wanted to reduce our lawn for Michigan native gardens, but this news has emboldened me. I am curious if there are any good resources for design when taking into consideration plant height, bloom timing, and spacing? Either in the forms of books, or individuals / businesses.

Expert Response

Dear Mr. Dean,

There are some comprehensive native plant designs at:  https://nativegardendesigns.wildones.org/designs/

There are quite a few from the midwest including one from Toledo, OH and Grand Rapids, MI.

I hope this is helpful.
