Hi Deleens,
Based on the pictures you provided, it looks like your maple tree might have leaf scorch. The most common cause of leaf scorch is improper watering of the tree. Though you will not be able to save the leaves that are already impacted by leaf scorch, the good news is that with proper water management your tree can recover by the next growing season.
Here is a fact sheet on leaf scorch that you might find helpful: Leaf Scorch One of the best ways to prevent leaf scorch in the future is to properly water your tree over the winter. Here is another fact sheet on Winter Watering.
It's possible that something else is going on instead of or in addition to the leaf scorch, though. Another possibility is anthracnose, which is a fungal disease. Anthracnose is usually just an aesthetic issue and doesn't require management unless it becomes more widespread. If it is anthracnose, you can't save the affected leaves, but with proper care your tree should recover!
To help us better understand what might going on with your maple tree, we have a few follow-up questions:
- Where is the tree and what direction (cardinal) is the damage facing?
- What is the watering schedule (including in the winter)?
- Do you use fertilizer on or around the tree?
- Is there mulch around the base of the tree? Or anything else around the base of the tree?
- When did you first notice the leaf damage?
Please let us know if you have any additional questions!
