Sustainable raised bed design #880757

Asked August 08, 2024, 5:01 PM EDT

Hello. I live in Rochester. I want to put in a raised bed (2' tall, 3 x 6') for berry plants and vegetables. I care about sustainability in materials and durability, and looks. I've considered cedar boards or couragated metal. The main goal is to exclude rabbits and squirrels. What do you recommend?

Good Morning Judith,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

Please click on this link from the U of M Extension Yard and Garden website about raised bed gardens: https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/raised-bed-gardens#containerized-raised-beds-881262

It is your choice what type of container the garden is in, or no container. You may still need a fence to keep out the rabbits and squirrels: https://extension.umn.edu/news/keeping-animals-out-your-garden

Good Luck!
