Hosta and phlox #880717

Asked August 08, 2024, 1:59 PM EDT

All of my phlox look ok but towards the top end of the stem all the leaves are curled down. I don’t see any bugs. Two of my Hosta have puckered leaves and edges are torn.

My guess on the phlox is aphids.  They may be gone now, but earlier feeding can cause leaf curling.  Check for sticky honeydew. Here is a reference with other possibilities:

I will add herbicide damage, which can also curl leaves.

As for the hosta, I can't see what you are describing very well.  Hosta leaf edges will curl and burn if the plant gets too much sun. But also, check here:

If the hosta is near the phlox (and other plants are affected), I would suspect herbicide drift more strongly.
