Is this plant a Locust tree or a weed? We have been pampering it and watering it since last fall. It made it thru the winter and is about 4 ft tall.

From what I can see in the photograph, that looks like a honeylocust tree (Gleditsia triacanthos). I could either be a seedling or a root sucker from another nearby honeylocust.
