Does Ultrasound Mole Removal Work and Does It Harm the Birds Feeding #880583

Asked August 07, 2024, 3:43 PM EDT

I have an area where my birdfeeders/birdbath are and it has become a mole highway. I bought an ultrasound mole repellent and before I set them into the ground, I wondered if they work? And, whether the sound waves were harmful to the birds, especially the ground feeders.

Expert Response

We don't have information pertaining to bird impacts (Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology might be able to tell you), but ultrasonic devices to repel moles do not work, and various Extension services do not recommend them because of this. The most widely-suggested and effective management approach is, unfortunately, lethal trapping. We do not recommend the use of any poison bait (also called toxicants). The linked web pages provide a bit more information.
