Jumping worm #880578

Asked August 07, 2024, 3:22 PM EDT

Would like second opinion as to the possibility of the attached picture being a jumping worm? The worm was about 6 inches long, wiggled when initially handled then stopped moving. it was also quite "fat".

Hello Cindy,

Thanks for reaching out to the EMG Helpline!

It is possible that this is a jumping worm, based on the time of year that it was identified and the light colored clitellum. At this time of year, they are likely to be in the top few inches of soil. Since it's possible that it's a jumping worm, you could remove it from the garden.
