Lilac blight #880501

Asked August 07, 2024, 9:37 AM EDT

Hello, I have heard from a neighbor that there is a lilac blight going through our neighborhood. Our lilacs leaves are brown and falling off. Is there something that we should do to treat it? Should be trim them? Thank you

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

Our wet weather has contributed to fungal disease which sometimes attacks lilacs.  It's best to prune out any diseased branches and clean up leaf litter.  Dispose of these carefully so that the blight does not transfer t other plants.  See the articles below for more information about this fungus and tips on preventing and treating it.
