I reached out to 5 snake-saavvy experts, and Dr. Bob Mason's graduate researcher Mark L (OSU, College of Science) figured it out first. This was a juvenile yellow-bellied racer, Coluber constrictor mormoni. Apparently the adults are uniformly colored, however juveniles are heavily patterned. With the complete (including subspecies) name, Dr. Mason said you'd be able to find additional photos of live animals online if you're interested.
