Trees abutting our property are marked with multiple orange dots #880438

I recently took our dog for a walk through a city park that is adjacent to our property. Many, many trees are marked with multiple orange spray-painted dots. This is a beautiful forest full of mature trees, and it's also part of floodplain and seasonal vernal pools. I've confirmed with our City Parks and Rec department that they are not involved in marking the trees. Any idea what the dots signify?

Expert Response
Tree markings are not always standard, and it's very possible that park staff may not realize they have been marked by a forester. Orange is sometimes used to mark trees for trimming or removal, or they could be monitoring a specific species for signs of pests and diseases. The Midland forestry division could have more insight.
