pecan trees #880390

Asked August 06, 2024, 12:50 PM EDT

I have found some nut trees on my property in the woods. My daughters phone identified the nuts as pecans. I looked on your site about pecan trees and that is what they appear to be. I live in northern Chisago County and had no idea pecans grow wild in Minnesota. How common is this?

Expert Response

There are some pecan trees here but they rarely produce nuts.  It requires a longer and hotter season than normal so it may be possible this year.  However, I am not comfortable with telling  you they are pecans and that it would be safe to eat those nuts.
