We have a very old Walnut tree and one of its main branches was broken off by a truck. It normally had the beginnings of nuts by now and there are none. Is there anything we can do to encourage the tree to produce. We have a large squirrel population that depends on these every winter.

Fertilization might help. Also new fruiting wood should develop in place of the lost branch. Normally a whole crop would not be lost due a lost branch, maybe the tree was not effectively pollenized or it could be simply exhibiting biennial bearing.
