Hello,
I have been seeing this bug on my counters the last couple of months. It is very small (you can see the blue lines are from a wide-ruled loose leaf notebook paper). What is it and how can I get rid of them?

Hi Gena,
Thank you for contacting Ask Extension. That insect appears to be a springtail. If it is a springtail, they like moist areas like kitchens and bathrooms and decaying vegetable matter. You can try decreasing the moisture or humidity indoors or using a household aerosol insect control product. Make sure to follow all instructions on the label before using any pesticide. They are not known to bite or cause damage typically.
Thank you.
