Exposed roots on a white pine #880210

Hello, I am asking about the viability of a white pine tree with exposed roots. It is in the playground of a pre-K school. It is on a slight rise, and while the tree looks healthy, it is causing erosion problems which only exacerbate the exposed roots. Should we preserve the tree and plant groundcover around it to hold the soil in place? If so, should we attempt to rebuild soil around the roots? Or, should we remove the tree and regrade the area? Or cut down the tree but leave the stump and roots as a play structure for the kids?

The trees in your photo appears to be an oak versus a pine. It would be recommended that you lightly cover with soil or mulch. You could also plant ground cover around it. For shaded areas wild ginger is a nice option. Below is a write up on management of tree roots.
