I always recommend plants that are considered natives, for many reasons, including the fact that they are typically well suited to the local climate and thus can require less maintenance. They also help to support the local wildlife, including pollinators and birds, and are typically not considered invasive.
Because you would like evergreens, there are fewer options, but there are still some good possibilities. Here are a few to consider.
