Shade tree #880163

Asked August 04, 2024, 4:51 PM EDT

Wondering about recommendations for a tree in back of yard that will be shade producing, but drought toleratant. This is in a neighborhood so the yards are not huge. I am not wanting something that will get super tall or wide. Zone 8b.

Hi, Thanks for reaching out.

This great publication by OSU Extension has recommendations for different situations. Selecting, Planting, and Caring for a New Tree. Also, this article has a list of drought-resistant trees

Keep in mind that even though a tree is drought-resistant it will still need watering the first few years as the tree gets established in the landscape (develops a robust root system).

Take a look and see if any of these meet your requirements. Let me know if you have any additional questions!
