prorating meadow blazing star liatris from seed #880138

Asked August 04, 2024, 1:37 PM EDT

I started some meadow blazing start liatris from seed last March. they are still very small seedlings (less than 2 inches tall), but have a good root structure. I have planted a few seedling in my pollinator garden, but would like to know if I should winter over the rest in pots and if so what is the best way to do that or is it best to plant them in the ground. thanks

Congratulations on propagating them.  Since you have already planted some, I would plant the others in pots and then bury the pots up to their rims in ground over winter. The tops will die back so it will be easier to know where your seedlings are next spring.
