I have an area below my house that is heavy clay soil. I’m looking to plant it in more of a natural wild meadow type ground cover rather than lawn. so I’m looking for a low growing grass, maybe up to 12 inches high, that would only need to be mowed once or twice a year. And I could perhaps throw in some wildflower seed into this area as well. I was going to try Buffalo grass, but it sounds like we get too much rain in Western Oregon for that species. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Thank you for your question, John. I suggest that you consider an eco-lawn, developed by OSU, described here: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/techniques/ecolawn-less-work-water
If you're interested in attracting pollinators, this article has some good ideas: https://today.oregonstate.edu/news/eco-friendly-lawns-require-forethought-attract-pollinators
Good luck!

Thanks, can you tell me where I can purchase the echo lawn seed developed by OSU?
John: we cannot promote commercial entities which sell eco-lawn seeds, but the Internet has many outlets.
If you're looking for it, you need to spell it correctly: eco-lawn
Thank you for the clarification.
