Hi Penelope, 

Thanks for reaching out to UVM Extension Master Gardener Helpline. 

Sorry to hear about the garlic issues. Have you harvested any to look at the bulbs? That might provide some important further context. 

It's hard to say exactly from the diagnostic sheet I have but it could be basal rot or White rot. Is there any white fungus at the base? 

Botrytis Leaf Blight (LINK) could be another option. Did you notice any small sunken spots on the leaves before the wilt started? 

I'll check in with a colleague and get back to you with any other info. Great resource on garlic diseases below.

Hi Penelope, 

I asked Ann Hazelrigg, the director of the Plant Diagnostics Clinic, and she had this addition: 

"It could be a problem in the roots but it may just be normal dieback. I harvested my garlic a few weeks ago. If the cloves and basal plate looks good I would say it is time to harvest!"

Please reach back out if you find something out of the ordinary when you harvest a few bulbs.
