sorry to hear about problems with your peppers.
The first 2 things that come to my mind is sunscald that was subsequently colonized by opportunistic molds/fungi or blossom end rot (https://vegcropshotline.org/article/blossom-end-rot-of-tomato-and-pepper/#:~:text=Initial%20symptom%20of%20blossom%20end%20rot%20on%20a%20pepper.,the%20size%20of%20golf%20balls.)
